in Salzburg tagt der 27. Jahreskongress der Gesellschaft für Orthopädisch-Traumatologische Sportmedizin. Rund 500 der führenden Sportmediziner aus dem deutschsprachigen Raum diskutieren über aktuelle Themen in der Behandlung von Spitzen- und Breitensportlern.
Die Mitgliederversammlung der GOTS wählte gestern ein neues Präsidium der Gesellschaft. Für die kommenden zwei Jahre übernimmt mit Prof. Dr. Dr. Victor Valderrabano (Basel) erstmals ein Schweizer den Vorsitz der GOTS.

Neuwahlen: Das GOTS-Präsidium
Einstimmig fielen die Wahlen um die Führungspositionen der Gesellschaft für Orthopädisch-Traumatologische Sportmedizin für die kommenden zwei Jahre gestern Abend in Salzburg aus. Der Vorsitz der GOTS geht dabei zum ersten Mal in die Schweiz: Prof. Dr. Dr. Victor Valderrabano wird die Gesellschaft von Basel aus leiten.
Als Vizepräsidenten wird er dabei vom Berliner PD Dr. Oliver Miltner für den deutschen, von Dr. Gerhard Oberthaler (Salzburg) für den österreichischen und von Dr. Geert Pagenstert (Basel) für den schweizerischen Bereich unterstützt. In ihren Ämtern bestätigt wurden der Schriftführer PD Dr. Martin Engelhardt (Osnabrück) und Schatzmeister Dr. Michael Krüger-Franke (München). Dr. Hubert Hörterer (Rottach-Egern) bleibt der Vertreter der Verbandsärzte Deutschland im GOTS-Präsidium, bis er dieses Amt bei der Sitzung der Verbandsärzte in wenigen Wochen an einen Nachfolger übergeben wird.
In den zwölfköpfigen Beirat der Gesellschaft für Orthopädisch-Traumatologische Sportmedizin wurden Prof. Dr. Gerhard Bauer (Stuttgart), Prof. Dr. Matthias Buchner (Karlsruhe), Prof. Dr. Thomas Jöllenbeck (Bad Sassendorf) und PD Dr. Thore Zantop (Straubing) wiedergewählt. Erstmals im Beirat vertreten sind Dr. Walter Bily (Wien, A), Dr. Casper Grim (Osnabrück), Dr. Rolf Michael Krifter (Stolzalpe, A), Dr. Andre Leumann (Basel, CH), Prof. Dr. Frank Mayer (Potsdam), Dr. Matthias Muschol (Bremen), Dr. Manuel Sabeti-Aschraf (Wien, A) und Prof. Dr. Romain Seil (Luxemburg).
Valderrabano: “Werde die GOTS in helvetischer Art weiterführen”
Prof. Valderrabano dankte seinem Vorgänger Prof. Dr. Holger Schmitt (Heidelberg), der satzungsgemäß nach vier Jahren aus dem Amt ausschied, für die geleistete Arbeit und die Ruhe und Stabilität, die dieser in die Gesellschaft gebracht hatte. “Ich möchte die GOTS nun in einer helvetischen Art weiterführen”, sagte der Basler in seiner Antrittsrede und appellierte dabei an die Mitarbeit seiner Vorstandskollegen: “Ich bin nur die Visitenkarte der Gesellschaft, aber ich werde viel für die GOTS arbeiten und ich freue mich auf diese Arbeit.”
Prof. Valderrabano hatte seine Karriere in der Gesellschaft für Orthopädisch-Traumatologische Sportmedizin als Unterassistent und einfacher Kongressbesucher begonnen. Später wurde er für seine wissenschaftliche Tätigkeit mit der höchsten Auszeichnung der Gesellschaft, dem Michael-Jäger-Preis, geehrt, reiste als ausgewählter “Fellow” nach Asien und stand der GOTS-Jahrestagung in München als Kongresspräsident vor. “Ich werde die GOTS mit guten, soliden und innovativen Projekten weiterentwickeln”, so Valderrabano. “Sie können mit einem loyalen, offenen, ehrlichen und freundschaftlichen Kollegen an der Spitze der Gesellschaft rechnen.”
