Einigkeit prägt Verbandstag der Triathlon-Union in Osnabrück
Osnabrück. Der Friedenssaal im Osnabrücker Rathaus war mit Bedacht gewählt, und die Delegierten der Deutschen Triathlon-Union (DTU) lebten den sie umgebenden Geist: Auch jenseits der einstimmigen Vorstandswahlen, bei denen der Osnabrücker Martin Engelhardt als Präsident bis 2018 bestätigt wurde, setzte die DTU ihren Weg der Einigkeit fort.
„Niederlagen muss man einstecken. Man muss lernen, dass man nicht immer gewinnen kann“, hatte Bürgermeister Burkhard Jasper zur Eröffnung des Verbandstages gesagt. Die DTU war in Osnabrück noch damit beschäftigt, Niederlagen zu verarbeiten, die sie sich selbst zugefügt hat. Vor vier Jahren steckte der Verband in der Krise. Juristische Verfahren – drei endeten mit Freisprüchen, eines wurde gegen eine Geldauflage eingestellt – seien inzwischen beigelegt, der Verband finanziell konsolidiert, die Geschäftsstelle neu aufgebaut worden, bilanzierte Engelhardt zufrieden. „Wir haben die Zerstrittenheit unter uns beendet, die Jugendarbeit reaktiviert, ein Zukunftskonzept aufgestellt“, skizzierte er. Gleichwohl hätten Menschen Schaden davongetragen, die Streitigkeiten haben Wunden hinterlassen. „Es gibt Dinge, die sollten nie mehr passieren. Wir müssen wieder zu einer Gemeinschaft werden. Hier und heute können wir uns die Hand reichen“, sagte der Präsident und dankte nachträglich auch ehemaligen Funktionären, die in der Krise beschädigt worden waren.
Gewürdigt wurden zudem 16 verdienstvolle „Freunde und Förderer des Triathlons“. Außerdem zeichnete Engelhardt sportliche Leistungen aus: Steffen Justus erhielt seine WM-Silbermedaille von 2010, deren Versand beim Weltverband vier Jahre in Anspruch genommen hatte. Eine Ehrung wurde auch Astrid Benöhr zuteil, die schon die zehnfache Ironman-Distanz gefinisht hat.
Extremsportlerin Benöhr nahm nicht nur Geschenke entgegen, sondern verteilte auch welche: Ihr Buch „40 Jahre 20 sein“ ist nun Lesestoff für Boris Pistorius, den niedersächsischen Minister für Inneres und Sport. Der hatte zuvor seinen Respekt bekundet. „Triathlon ist eine beeindruckende Sportart, für die man bestens vorbereitet und auf den Punkt fit sein muss.“ Bestes Beispiel: Der Deutsche Sebastian Kienle, der den Ironman auf Hawaii in etwas mehr als acht Stunden bewältigt hatte. „Chapeau! Ich würde dafür eine Woche brauchen“, sagte Pistorius, der auf die wachsende Bedeutung des Triathlons im Breitensport hinwies und im Rückblick auf die DTU-Krise tröstende Worte fand: „Ich kenne keine Familie, in der es nicht mal Streit gibt. Selbst in Parteien soll es so etwas geben.“ Die deutsche Triathlon-Familie geht auch nach dem Verbandstag weiter den Weg zu einer inneren Einigkeit.
